MSA Championships Update 2010                                           1 March 2010

MSA Gravel Rally Championship
Round 1: Rallye Sunseeker - 26th-27th February

Marcus Dodd and Andrew Bargery got their MSA Gravel Rally Championship title defence underway with a sensational seventh victory on Saturday’s Rallye Sunseeker in Bournemouth.

The Hyundai Accent WRC crew emerged 33.7 seconds ahead of the Peugeot Cosworth of Andrew Burton and co-driver Robin Kellard (who are not registered for the MSA Gravel Rally Championship), with former ANCRO champion Steve Perez and co-driver Paul Spooner claiming third place a further 13 seconds back.

Dodd said: "It's been a very difficult rally and the stages have been as wet as I've ever known them but to win this event for the seventh time is fantastic.  One mile from the end of the last stage the water temperature shot through the roof but it was not a problem in the end and to claim victory on my local event is a great start to the year."

Hankook MSA Northern Ireland Rally Championship
Round 1: Pedro Pet Foods Stages - 27th February

The opening round of the 2010 MSA Northern Ireland Rally Championship attracted a healthy 118 entries, all of which enjoyed a dry but cold day’s action around the former RAF airfield of Kirkistown Race Circuit.

Reigning champion Derek McGarrity and co-driver James McKee scored six scratch times en route to victory aboard their Mitsubishi Lancer, well over a minute clear of young championship debutant Stuart Biggerstaff and his navigator Kenny Hull.

George Robinson had held the runner-up spot for most of the running but transmission problems on the final stage dropped him back to the bottom step of the podium; he finished 6.4 seconds  ahead of Group N winner Raymond Johnston.

Drew Stewart took the top honours in the two-wheel-drive category ahead of Terrence Taggart, both aboard Mk2 Escorts, while Philip Hunter triumphed in the Historic category with 24th overall.
